Two of the oldest and largest youth football leagues in the area have joined together! The Kingswood Athletic Association (KWAA) Youth Football League, founded in 1972, has joined with the Elkhorn Valley Waterloo (EVW)
Youth Football League, which was founded in 1994, to form the largest youth football league in the area. Together, these tradition rich programs will form the new Great Plains Youth Football League. The merger creates the largest & most unique football league in the Midwest. This new league will encompass more than 130 teams throughout Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa. The program will operate as a 501c3 non-profit organization to
offer youth football opportunities to programs, communities and players across the area. Our mission is to provide our youth athletes the opportunity to play regardless of their ability, maximizing their development in the safest football environment possible. The new Great Plains Youth Football League
is sponsored by Under ArmourTM.
The league will consist of grade and combination grade-based divisions. This will allow the new league to offer a level of play for all teams and abilities. In both groups, there will be competitive and developmental divisions,
allowing the more advanced teams to play against each other pushing their skill sets to higher levels, while allowing teams that are not as advanced or want to compete within more restrictive weight requirements, to play against each other. This allows all players to develop within their level of ability.
With this format, we are "the place to play" for youth football teams in the area! This is an exciting time for youth football with the most innovative ideas to create a safe environment for our players, allowing every child to develop the needed skillsets to be the best football player possible.
The league will look at growth opportunities geographically in the Outstate Nebraska and Western Iowa areas. The league will welcome the addition of programs that are a philosophical and geographical fit for our blueprint.
Additionally, the new league will place a great deal of emphasis on growth opportunities in the Omaha and Lincoln metro areas with the goal of creating the deepest and most unified youth football organization in the Midwest.
Current member programs include: Auburn, Nebraska City, Plattsmouth, Platteview, Omaha Gross, Omaha Roncalli, Gretna, Ashland, Waverly, Norris, Fremont, Elkhorn South, Elkhorn, Bennington, DC West, Wahoo, Millard West, Millard South, Millard North, Blair, Fort Calhoun, Arlington, North Bend, Logan View, Tekamah-Herman, Oakland-Craig, West Point, Missouri Valley and Logan, IA.
With an emphasis on tackle football between the 3rd grade (8u) and 8th grade (14u), the league will also encourage program members to offer flag football opportunities beginning at the Kindergarten level. For those member programs that field flag teams an opportunity to compete in a Flag Football State Championship venue in late October. Our member programs offering flag football programs will truly provide a complete football experience for anyone and everyone wanting to play football and the depth of our "complete" program will allow for the best football experience around!
The Great Plains Youth Football League will be governed by a Board of Directors representing some of the largest, oldest, and most-experienced youth football programs in the area. This leadership board will govern in accordance to the league rules and guidelines to ensure fair rules of competition with an added emphasis on player development and sportsmanship.
The league will publish the new rule book and specifications for all program members in the near future. In the meantime, if you have questions or would like information on how to join this exciting new league, please direct them to us by email at email@example.com.
